The best part of our trip to Chikmagalur district last summer was the time spent at the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is one of the best forest reserves that we have been to and would love to visit this place again.

The sanctuary is also known as Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary and was declared as the 25th Project Tiger of India in 1998. In 1951, the reserve was known as Jagara Wildlife Sanctuary comprising of 78 square kilometers, later it was expanded to the current size.

Kalathgiri Falls are sited near Kemmanagundi, which is 55 km north of Chikmagalur, a naturally blessed district that is the main attraction in Karnataka. At Kalathgiri Falls, pilgrims love to witness a small temple that is sandwiched between the waterfalls and rocks.

Also, this magnificent tourist spot magnetizes the adventure lovers, and especially trekkers. Here, the stature allows the trekkers to trek the build and reach the top from where the water is falling and striking the ground. The water here is pure.Merely 10 km away from Kemmanagundi, Hebbe Falls also offer scenic waterfalls view that seems quite similar to Kalathgiri Falls.

Kemmangundi is a hill station in Tarikere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district in India. It is located at a height of 1434m above sea level. This was the summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and as a mark of respect to the king, it is also known as Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station.

For the adventurous at heart, Kemmangundi offers many peaks to scale and intricate jungle paths to explore.Kemmannagundi is situated in Tarikere taluk, Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka. It is about 252 kilometers from Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. It is 1434 meters above sea level. The maximum temperature during summer is 28 degree centigrade, and it receives a yearly rainfall of 254 cms.

Hebbe Falls is surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations, Hebbe Falls gushes down from a height of 168 meters in two stages to form Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls.)The whole view when it divides itself into two is the most mesmerizing one. The place all around Hebbe Falls has an intoxicating environment that captivates you in its green background. You cannot leave the place easily.

Hebbe Falls at Karnataka is a delight for your eyes for it offers you some eye catching scenery that soothes and refreshes your mind and body. Apart from the waterfalls, you can experience trekking in the surrounding woods or try your hand at some river sports in the water.

Mullayanagiri

Mullayanagiri

Mullayanagiri is the tallest mountain in Karnataka. Its 1930m high and is situated in Chickamagalur district. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva atop the mountain. A cave and a Nandi statue are at walkable distance from the temple. The mountain belongs to the Bababudangiri hill range, It is a trekkers paradise and often clubbed with Bababudangiri for trekking.

Mullayanagiri is 265km from Bangalore.

Belur and Halebidu

Belur and Halebid are two tiny but beautiful temple towns 16 km apart in the southern state of Karnataka. Once at the centre of a great empire ruled by Hoysalas in the 12th century.

Halebid and Belur formed a part of the Hoysala Empire between the 12th and 13th century. A Jain, named Nripa Kama, discovered these towns and enjoyed a combined rule on both of them. Its successor was his son, Vinayaditya.

Dattatreya, for whom the shrine was once named, is considered by some Hindus to be God who is an incarnation of the Divine Trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara (Shiva), in the form of an ascetic in the discipline of Avadhuutha (God intoxicated monk).

To the north of Chikmagalur town is the Baba Budan Giri Range or Chandra Drona Parvatha as it was known in the ancient times, which has one of the highest mountain peaks between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. The peak takes its name from the Muslim saint, Baba Budan, who resided here more than 150 years ago.

Sringeri

Sringeri

Sringeri was established by the Aadi Sankaracharya, a great spiritual leader and the discoverer of Sringeri, which is encircled by Sahyadri hills in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka on the banks of the river Tungabhadra.

The temple retains the golden image of Sarada, apart from the images of Venugopala, Srinivasa and Nandi that was made out of ruby and pearl. Within the temple, myriad inscriptions can be witnessed that are describing the contributions made by the Vijayanagar emperors.
